Ticket Classes Explained

  • 1st Class (Observation): Air-conditioned, reserved seats. great comfort but windows don't open (bad for photos).

The "Reverse" Trick: The train FROM Ella TO Kandy is often slightly less crowded than Kandy to Ella.

Station Pickup: If you take the train one way, arrange for your driver to meet you at the Ella station with your heavy luggage so you don't feature to haul it on the train!
