COVID Rules Sri Lanka Travel: Post-Pandemic Guidelines

A frequent question from travelers planning a holiday is whether there are any lingering COVID rules for traveling to Sri Lanka. The short answer is excellent news: Sri Lanka is fully open, and the vast majority of pandemic-era restrictions have been completely lifted.

Current Entry Requirements

Travel to the island has essentially returned to the pre-2020 normal. However, staying informed is always best practice:

• Vaccination Certificates: Sri Lanka no longer requires tourists to present a COVID-19 vaccination certificate upon entry, nor are you required to undergo any pre-departure PCR or Rapid Antigen testing.
• On-Arrival Testing: There is no mandatory testing upon arrival at Colombo Airport.
• Quarantine: Mandatory quarantine protocols for tourists have been entirely abolished.

Masks and Local Protocols

Inside the country, the atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming.

• Mask Mandates: Wearing a mask in public spaces, hotels, restaurants, and tourist sites is no longer mandatory. You will see some locals still wearing them on crowded public transport by choice, but it is not enforced upon tourists.
• Health Declarations: The requirement to fill out complex online health declaration forms prior to boarding your flight has been removed.

Traveling Safely

While COVID specific rules are gone, general travel health applies. It is highly recommended to secure comprehensive travel insurance that covers any potential medical emergencies while abroad.
